Transition from Globe edition to 2D edition
« on: June 12, 2019, 09:11:00 AM »
Hi Kronect,

The package is great so far, thank you.
However, it would be really cool to be able to unfold the globe edition and continue working on the 2D edition. Possible?

best,
-martin

You could implement some kind of fade to white while zooming in (resembling you're crossing the higher clouds) and switch between globe and 2D or WMSK while the screen is white.

I was thinking more about some sort of unwrap by shader to the point that the two versions match and can be switched.
Unfortunately this is beyond my abilities :-/

Well, in theory it's doable using a vertex displacement in the shader but it's more complicated than you think since it should also take into account the potential visible frontiers, colorization, etc. So the same effect must be applied to different layers (possibly also affecting any marker, line or gameobject that might be placed on the globe). Then, once you have the globe unwrapped, you need to switch between the assets ensuring the look/feel remains exactly to ensure there's no glitching at that point.
That definitely looks like a project itself, definitely beyond the scope of these assets :)
